Workshops

Capturing our Life Stories – Preserving Stories, Values, and Meanings
This dynamic workshop involves active participation and has proven to bring a high level of aliveness to the group.  Participants create and share their stories and engage in several reminiscence exercises that allow tapping into the memory bank of long forgotten stories.  Participation provides the potential of getting to know and value yourself and your peers in a deeper way.  Participants often respond to this workshop saying, “I want more!”
Workshops are 1.5 hours.

Guided AutobiographyGroups

Groups of six (minimum) to 10 (maximum) participants meet for 1.5 hour meetings for eight consecutive weeks to engage in a shared oral history, using the Birren method of Guided Autobiography (GAB).  GAB is a semi-structured, topical, group approach to life review and incorporates individual and group experiences through autobiographical writing.  One of the direct benefits of participation is having a written legacy to pass on to family and friends.

Spiritual Legacy Groups

Similar to Guided Autobiography groups, participants meet for 1.5 hours for eight consecutive weeks. As participants engage in creating and writing their spiritual autobiography, they will discover the incredible power of sharing spiritual stories.

Intimate relationships are built as participants reflect together on where God or their spirituality met them in their life’s journey.

One Day or Weekend Retreats

“Capturing our Life Stories – Preserving Stories, Values, and Meanings
This event allows the participants to reflect on their lives and to explore where they have been, where they are, and where they would like to be.  Participants gain a growing appreciation of their life through recalling, writing and sharing their life stories and life experiences.  Through this process older adults become more confident and optimistic about facing the years ahead.

Educational Training

Professional education on topics of aging, especially, but not exclusively, focused on Life Review, End-of-Life Issues, and Cultural Diversity.

As a result of an In-Service Workshop for Educators for the South Bay Older Adult Network, a participant recently proclaimed, “I am still implementing the exercises to maximize dendrite connections in my brain! Margriet is an enthusiastic, personable and colorful presenter who shares current research-based information that transforms lives.”
